This is the second in a series of three award winning books which set
out to explore, for the first time, the history and settlement of the African
Caribbean, Chinese and Asian Communities in Gloucestershire.
Nasreen Akhtar started planning this project after realising there was
a lack of published information in this important field. The aim was
forever, the stories of all the individuals involved.
Some of the research presented here, has already appeared in a book,
also by Gail Johnson, entitled 'A Long Five Years'. This new book is
however a greatly updated version of that work with interviews and pictures
many members of the community as well as full historical background covering
the arrival and settlement of the African-Caribbean community in Gloucestershire.
For this website we have added new lesson plans for use at KS2
and KS3. We
hope teachers and pupils find this a most valuable resource.
