Fishpool Awards Evening 2011

The first performance of the evening was from Gloucester Academy, who produced a fascinating presentation describing the countries of the Commonwealth and an exciting modern dance display. Next onto the stage was Brockworth Enterprise School. Brockworth pupils had written some moving poems about what they believe in and then delighted the audience with a vibrant fun video “ I believe I can Fly” , which held a serious and powerful message.
A Beaufort School pupil then recited a dramatic poem about the need to accept challenges and take risks, followed by a moving poem written by the pupil himself.
Severn Vale School presented inspiring personal perspectives from pupils, in which they described their individual hopes and aspirations.
Churchdown School completed the performances with pupil presentations and a stunning display of rhythmic dance routines.
Paul Dennis presented the Special Awards on behalf of the late Pam Dennis and Dee Russell – Thomas presented a new Adult Award for making a significant contribution to the achievement of Black Pupils. This year the Award was awarded to Anita Anson of Beaufort School, who has worked tirelessly to support young people over the years and who organised the excellent catering at this year’s Awards Evening.
The Guest Speaker this year was Javinia Harris, READS Learning Mentor. Javinia held the audience spellbound by a powerful and heartfelt speech, in which she encouraged young people to work hard to realise their goals and be true to themselves.
The evening culminated with all the Fishpool pupils, school and READS staff taking to the stage to sing together a resounding version of “I believe”. This finale completed a wonderful and inspiring evening, Many thanks to Clayton Gardner for compering and to Brockworth Enterprise School for producing the Fishpool Newsletter issued on the evening – Roll on the next ten years!
