University Problem Solving Day June 25th 2010

An action packed day, organised by READS, LA Maths, Science and ICT consultants and STEM, to acknowledge potential gifted and talented BME pupils in our schools was hosted by the University of Gloucestershire on June 25th.
42 KS3 bilingual and Black pupils from 13 different schools met at the University Cheltenham Campus, where they were divided into teams and worked together on two problem solving activities: a Maths Crystal Maze carousel and a science challenge to make the most effective wind turbine.
Their progress was captured on film and pod casting by 6th form BME pupils. Each participant received a certificate and the event encouraged these students to aim high, aspire to go to University and achieve!
The students engaged with the challenges and each other and there was a buzz of activity and exchanging ideas - they all worked hard, enjoyed themselves and made new friends. They were a credit to their schools!

The schools involved were:

Archway, Barnwood Park, Beaufort, Bishops' College, Brockworth, Christ College, Churchdown, Central Technology College, Pittville, Ribston, Severn Vale, St. Peter's High and Vale of Berkeley.
